PROJECT PLAN

TASKS

When you start up this screen – the PHASES will already be showing.

There is a full list of tasks for all libraries. The SPECIALIST library is aimed at specialist construction trades.

This section is made up of one line items. There are number of popular examples that can be dragged and dropped into the list and then edited or input manually.

Tasks can be dropped under each phase by dropping on a phase and the item is then included at the bottom of that phase.

The duration can be entered against each task. Only whole numbers can be input and represent working days (based on a 5 day working week) NOT calendar days. You cannot enter negative or zero values.

Double click on the cell under DAYS to edit the duration. At this stage you could leave the Durations as 1 day until you export the data or save the file and edit later.

Important :  When you drag a task from the library – you must drag it on to the phase heading.  This will put the task direct under the Phase at the bottom of the list of tasks.

This creates a structure – where Phases are headings and all the tasks are a level under.

Note: When these are exported into a project management software, the Phases will become summary tasks.

SUB TASKS

If you drag a task onto another task on the left – it will create a SUB TASK – making that task above a heading later.

Above – the task has been broken down into 3 sub tasks.

Note: Durations are only input on the lowest level task or sub task.

Important: You must insert at least one task under each Phase.

Tasks can be moved in the structure by dragging to another position.

When the system creates a Gantt chart in the final step, it works on a calendar based on five day working (Monday-Friday) and no public holidays.

Note the calendar cannot be changed in Project Highway – but can be changed when the data is exported into Project Commander (free with the system) or any other project management software.

A hierarchical structure is created ..

Levels can be hidden and displayed by clicking on the  symbol to the left of an item name.

There are only three levels available – Phase, Task & Sub Task.

PERSONNEL

This step is optional.

The duration can also be edited here against each task.

Resources and equipment can be dragged or  manually input. If more than one person is dragged on to the left panel  - a comma is automatically separates the names.
If you enter another person manually – you must enter the comma yourself.

Customised lists can input using the LIBRARY GENERATOR.

Important: For the purposes of this stage, the system allocates one unit of resource named to each task – when it exports. These can then be edited later in the project management software.

FINAL HEALTH CHECK

This step is totally optional. It is often a requirement for PRINCE2 and you can use the PRINCE2:2009 or PRINCE2:2005  libraries. There is also a GENERAL checklist.

Note: There are no other lists for specific industries unless customised by the user in the LIBRARY GENERATOR.

You can tick those items you have checked …….

PRINCE2:2009 Checklist.
